San Diego, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team opened up the second day of their three day San Diego road trip with a 14-6 loss to No. 15 UC San Diego on Mar. 15. With the loss, the Tigers record fell to 3-15 on the season, while the Tritons of UCSD improved their overall record to 11-12 on the year with the win.
In the contest, the Tigers fell behind by a score of 4-3 early after battling back and forth with the No.15 team in the first quarter. The Tritons would later pull away however as they would score ten more goals over the course of the last three periods, while the Tigers would only muster up three more goals of their own.
UCSD's Sydney Gstettenbauer led all scorers in the game with six goals, while freshman Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the Tigers for a second consecutive game with three goals in the losing effort.
Other scorers for the Tigers were Kellie Fletcher (Roseville, Calif.), Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.), and Virginia McConnell (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). Fletcher, Geck and McConnell each scored once.
The Tigers will next be in action later today at 12:30 when they take on Cal State Bakersfield. The game will again be played at the Aztec Aquaplex in San Diego, Calif. Tomorrow, Mar. 16, they will take on Colorado State at 12:00 p.m.
