FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 20 Pacific women's water polo program will wrap-up the regular season Saturday with a Golden Coast Conference game against No. 14 Fresno State at 1 p.m. at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
Â
The Tigers (10-8, 2-3 GCC) were originally scheduled to host Santa Clara on Thursday at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center, but the
Broncos announced on March 18 that they will not participate in the remainder of the season. Thus, Pacific was awarded a forfeit win.
Â
Pacific will look to enter the conference tournament with momentum when it squares off with a Fresno State (13-9, 4-1 GCC) squad that is coming off consecutive wins over CBU 20-8 and No. 13 San Diego State 14-12. The Tigers are going for their first win over the Bulldogs since 2019.
Â
Junior
Laia Marsinach Ortega leads Pacific offensively with 40 goals on the season. Three of the team's top four goal scorers are freshmen as
Maria Ikonomou has tallied 28 goals, freshman Elni Ikonomou 23 and
Sophie Pethers 22.
Â
In net, junior
Maja Lizy Dulic has been the starting goalkeeper in conference and has made 47 stops on the season.
Â
With Pacific's forfeit win over Santa Clara, the Tigers are locked into the No. 5 seed at the Golden Coast Conference tournament on April 10-12 at Fresno State. The bracket will be announced by the league upon conclusion of all regular season games.
