Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - A three-run double from freshman Nicole Matson (Castaic, Calif.) and a two-run double from senior Alyce Jorgensen (Los Altos, Calif.) led the Pacific softball team to an 8-0 win over Santa Clara in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday, Mar. 12.

The victory lifted the Tigers to 12-14, while Santa Clara fell to 4-25 on the season.

The Tigers put up back-to-back four spots in the third and fourth frames to end the contest with the Broncos quickly via run rule.

Sophomore Brittany Hendrickson (San Jose, Calif.) got the Tigers first quartet of runs started with a lead off single in third. One out later, junior Casey Goldsand (Scottsdale, Ariz.) reached on an infield single. A double steal moved both runner into scoring position, then junior Lauren Weyman (Carlsbad, Calif.) drew a walk to load the bases.

Sophomore Kellee Wilson (Tracy, Calif.) plated the first run on a sacrifice fly. The next batter, Matson, reached on an error that sent Weyman around to third and allowed Goldsand to score, making it 2-0. Jorgensen followed with a two-run double into right-center to bring in both Weyman and Matson and give Pacific a 4-0 lead.

One inning later the Tigers got rolling again as sophomore Karie Wilson (Glendale, Ariz.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. One out later freshman Lindsey Pierce (Camarillo, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice as Wilson beat a play at third. Goldsand followed with an RBI double to right-center, making it 5-0. After a walk to Weyman, Kellee Wilson grounded into a fielder's choice, forcing Pierce at the plate. Matson delivered the eventual knockout blow with a three-run double into right-center.

The eight run cushion was more than enough for Pacific ace, junior Chelsea Engle (Folsom, Calif.), who held Santa Clara to one hit and one walk in five innings to move to 10-6 on the season.

Kaitlyn Rauschnot (0-5) suffered the loss as she allowed eight runs (five earned) in six hits and two walks in three innings of relief.

The Tigers and Broncos play the second game of their doubleheader at approximately 3:00 p.m.
