Pacific Draws With Hawai'i, 2-2

Sept. 8, 2007

Box Score

Honolulu, Hawaii - Keeping their unbeaten streak alive the Pacific women's soccer team netted a 2-2 draw with the Rainbow Wahine of Hawai'i on Friday, Sept. 7. The draw moved both teams to 2-0-1 on the season and marked the third straight game between the two teams that ended with a tie.

Senior Bunny Dickson (Millbrae, Calif.) ended her scoreless drought for the Tigers with a goal in the 20th minute to give Pacific an early 1-0 lead. Dickson was the beneficiary of a perfectly redirected cross into the middle of the box the notched both freshman Sammi Teramae (Kapolei, Hawaii) and senior Mandi Van Dorn (Danville, Calif.) assists on the play. Dickson's goal marked her first score in nearly two years with her last strike coming over 2,066 minutes ago in the Tigers' 2-0 win over UC Irvine on October 16, 2005.

Pacific would take its one goal lead into the half thanks to timely play by senior Jamie Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) in goal of the Tigers. Souza notched three saves in the first half for the Tigers giving her two and one half games of shutout soccer in net for Pacific to start the 2007 season.

However, Souza would see her cleansheet marked up in the second half as Pacific relinquished its first goal of the season in the 53rd minute when Hawai'i took advantage of a set piece right outside of the Tigers' 18 to net its first goal of the game. Taryn Fukuroku scored the goal for the Rainbow Wahine after receiving the ball from Jessica Domingo who laced a pass off the free kick by the side of Pacific's defensive wall and into its six.

Tied at one goal a piece, Dickson had a second crack at the Rainbow Wahine defense as she beat Hawai'i's 'keeper to a loose ball in front of the goal. After beating Kori Lu to the right, Dickson was dragged down from behind, losing the ball and the scoring chance.

Despite not having the opportunity to put the Tigers ahead with her second goal of the game, Dickson instead setup the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute with a lead pass to Van Dorn. Van Dorn wasted little time reclaiming her spot atop the Tigers' team scoring list with a well placed strike to the back corner of the net over the head of Lu. The goal was her third of the season.

The celebration was short lived for the Tigers as Hawai'i struck back just :10 seconds later as Ambree Ako took advantage of a misplayed through ball by the Tigers' defense to knot the game at two goals each. The game would remain tied through the rest of regulation and through two overtimes to mark the first draw of the season for the Tigers.

Souza finished the game with six saves including two in the first overtime to keep the Tigers amongst the unbeaten teams in the nation. Her counterpart, Lu, produced two saves in the game, both of which came in the first half of the contest.

The Tigers will be back in action on the Big Island on Saturday, Sept. 8 as they face off with Tennessee-Marting at 10:00 pm (PT).
