March 22, 2006

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific softball team rebounded from two losses yesterday to post an 8-0, five inning, victory over the visiting Nevada Wolf Pack on Wednesday, March 22. With the win the Tigers improved to 15-13 on the season while Nevada dropped to 11-19.

Pacific wasted no time getting its offense rolling in their third game in two days, cracking the scoreboard for four runs in the first inning. Senior Kristen Allen (Citrus Heights, Calif.) took advantage of the bases being loaded, using the opportunity to blast her fourth home run of the season, a grand slam over the left field wall. Allen's four RBI improved her team leading total to 22 RBI on the season while her home run placed her into a tie for 10th all-time in Tiger history with nine throughout her career.

Continuing her hot start, Allen led off the third inning with a double that she roped down the left field line. With a runner in scoring position, freshman pitcher Briana Santos (Garden Grove, Calif.) helped her own cause with a single into center field that drove in Allen.

Pacific's offense continued to roll, ending the game in the fifth inning posting three runs to give the Tigers the 8-0 run rule victory. Once again, Allen spurred the offense on, this time sacrificing herself to push junior Jennifer Curtier (Lancaster, Calif.), who had reached on a single to start the inning, into scroing position at second base. Again, Santos delivered for the Tigers, blooping a single into center that scored Curtier.

A single and an errant throw later, Santos and junior Lizzie Hagen (Anaheim, Calif.) sat at second and third, placing the winning run at second with only one out. However, the Tigers would not need anymore chances as the next batter, freshman Lauren Weyman (Carlsbad, Calif.) laced a 2-1 pitch into the left-center gap for a game-winning, two RBI double. Weyman's two RBI gives her 18 on the season, second most on the team in just her first season.

In the circle for the Tigers, Santos gave up five hits in five full innings pitched. She struck out two while posting her second complete game shutout and sixth winof the season.

For the Wolf Pack, Jordan McPherson picked up the loss in the circle, finishing three innings while relinquishing five hits and five runs. Tiffany Hoeft came in to relieve McPherson and complete 1.1 innings while giving up four hits and three runs.

The Tigers will next be in action on Saturday, March 25, as they travel to Sacramento, Calif. to play a non-conference doubleheader with Sacramento State. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm.
