March 21, 2006

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific softball team dropped a pair of games, falling in both ends of their non-conference doubleheader with No. 14 Washington on Tuesday, March 21. Pacific fell in game one, 2-0 in eight innings, before dropping game two, 4-0. With the losses the Tigers fell to 14-13 on the season while the Huskies improved to 24-8.

The first game was a pitchers duel throughout, forcing the game into extra innings, the third time this season Pacific has gone to extra frames where it is now 1-2 on the year. Senior Kristen Allen (Citrus Heights, Calif.) dueled Danielle Lawrie the entire day, going seven strong innings for Pacific in the circle before finding herself in a jam in the eighth inning.

After giving up back-to-back singles to start the innings, Allen was relieved by freshman Chelsea Engle (Folsom, Calif.). With no outs, Sarah Hyatt laced a come-backer off of Engle that scored both runners for the Huskies. Allen came back into the game and finished off the inning, finishing the game with 8.0 innings pitched, giving up six hits and two earned runs while striking out five. The Tigers were held in check in the bottom half of the inning, falling in game one. Pacific's biggest threat came in the first inning as the Tigers stranded runners at second and third with just one out in the inning.

For Lawrie, she went all eight innings as well, giving up four hits in the game while striking out 15 and walking none.

Game two started in much the same manner as freshman Briana Santos (Garden Grove, Calif.) took over in the circle for the Tigers giving up just one hit through the first two innings. Despite the fast start, Santos could not keep Washington off the board in the third inning as the Huskies notched two runs in the top half of the inning using two double to get on the board in the inning.

The Huskies added two insurance runs in the sixth inning as Santos relinquished her first home run in her career, giving up a two run homerun to Sarah Hyatt. Hyatt ended the day with two hits and four RBI in the two games. Santos finished the game with 5.0 innings pitched, giving up six hits and four earned runs while striking out five and walking two.

Pacific's offense was held in check for the second straight game, mustering two hits in the second game. The Tigers only threat came in the fourth inning when for the second time in as many games, Pacific left runners on second and third with only one out in the inning.

The Tigers will again be in action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 22, as they take on the Nevada Wolf Pack at Bill Simoni Field. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
