WAIMEA, Hawaii – Freshman
Carlos Astiazaran leads the Tigers with an 11-under-par score as the Pacific men's golf team completed the second day of the Amer Ari Invitational on the Mauna Lani Golf Course in a tie for 12th place in the 20-team field with a 23-under-par.
The 20-team field features some of the country's top teams, including four of the top 10 teams in the country and 13 teams ranked in the top 50. After the second round, North Carolina leads the event with a two-day score of 46-under-par.
Improving on his second day, Astiazaran stands in a six-way tie for sixth place, finishing with a six-under-par 66 for a two-day score of 11-under-par 133. The native of Tucson, Ariz., made seven birdies, including one on the final hole on 18.
Fifth-year
Maverick Pavletich followed his great day one performance with a three-under-par 69 today, presenting him a two-day score of seven-under-par 137 and sitting in a tie for 32nd place. Senior
Petr Janik moved up six spots from the opening round, holding a spot in the top half of the individual leaderboard with a two-under-par 70 for a two-day total of three-under-par 141. After a three-over-par of 75 on the first day, sophomore
Ian Fritz bounced back with a three-under-par 69 for a two-day score of an even-par 144. Senior
Alex Barclay rounded the Pacific team scoring with a five-over-par 77 on the second day, giving him a six-over-par 150 across two rounds.
Junior
Daniel Henely competed as an individual, earning a one-under-par 71 for a two-day score of nine-over-par 153.
"The team had another great effort today," Pacific head coach
John Cook said. "It was nice to have all four of the counting scores under-par. Carlos backed up yesterday's round with a fantastic 66 today. He made a 25–30-foot putt on 18 to finish the day off. Maverick played solid as well today. We are looking forward to tomorrow's final round."
