Men's Tennis Coming Off Strong Battle in the Bay Weekend

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific men's tennis team return from a strong showing in the Battle in the Bay tournament in San Francisco. Over the course of four days, both junior Justas Trainauskas and senior Peter Alam represented the Tigers in multiple matches, with both concluding the weekend on a high note.

The tournament opened on Thursday for the Tigers, seeing Trainauskas and Alam take on Oklahoma's Asahi Harazaki and Justin Schlageter in the men's doubles main draw. The pair swiftly took down the Sooner duo 8-3, moving the Tigers into the men's doubles quarterfinal.

The following day the tandem returned ready to take on Arizona's Colton Smith and Herman Hoeyeraal. After some fierce competition, the Wildcats edged out the Tigers 8-6.

On Saturday the two returned once more, taking on Florida's Nate Bonetto and Aidan Kim for some extra men's doubles. The duos competed close, but the Tigers fell 6-4.

In the Battle in the Bay's extra singles matches, both Trainauskas and Alam made their way to the final day of the competition. Saturday opened with two afternoon victories for Pacific. Trainauskas faced Oklahoma's Harazaki once more and cruised by the Sooner 6-3, 6-0.

Alam revisited California's Alexander Aney, having faced the Golden Bear the week prior in the men's doubles qualifier. After Aney took the first set 6-3, Alam never lost, earning the 6-1, 10-5 win over California.

Their efforts placed them into the Sunday's extra men's singles matches. Alam went first early on Sunday morning, meeting Baylor's Luc Koenig. Koenig took the first set 7-5, but Alam rattled off two wins in a row to claim victory over Koenig 7-5, 10-8.

Trainauskas followed late that morning meeting another California opponent, Ethan Schiffman. Schiffman took the first set 6-3, but it was Trainauskas that wound up on top, taking the next two 6-3, 10-7.
