SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team kicked off the fall portion of the 2023-24 season Monday as the Tigers finished the first two rounds of the USF-Howard Intercollegiate in tenth place, posting a 10-over-par 586 at TPC Harding Park.
Freshman
Carlos Astiazaran recorded a team-low score of two-over 146 and is tied for 39th place of 80 golfers. In his first collegiate round of golf, Astiazaran shot a one-under 71 before posting a three-over 75 in the second round.
Senior
Petr Janik tallied the lowest round for a Pacific golfer today, starting the day with a four-under 68 that featured six birdies in the opening round. Finishing in a tie for 43rd place after two rounds, Janik notched eight of the Tigers' 30 birdies on the day.
Senior
Alex Barclay wrapped up the day alongside Janik in a tie for 43rd place with a score of three-over 147. Senior
Maverick Pavletich bounced back after recording a three-over 75 in the opening round with a two-over 74 to wrap up the day. Sophomore
Timothy Jung rounded out the team scoring with an eight-over 152.
"We had a solid start this morning as a team," said Pacific head coach
John Cook at the end of the second round. "Petr had a great first round. Carlos posted a 1-under-par for his first collegiate tournament. The afternoon we struggled a little bit, but we will regroup and get ready for the final round tomorrow."
Pacific returns to action as the final round of the USF-Howard Intercollegiate tees off tomorrow at 8 am.
