Men's Golf Adds Three Recruits for Upcoming 2023-24 Season

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team and Head Coach John Cook have officially announced the signing class for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Three recruits are set to join the program, with Samuel Pampling and Carlos Astiazaran entering their first collegiate season as freshmen, while Daniel Henely comes in as a sophomore transfer.

"We're excited about their success at the junior level by winning tournaments and being competitive," Cook said. "Their success will be a great addition to the current team culture that we've been working towards the last couple of years."

Pampling joins the Tigers after finishing a four-year career at Edward S. Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. While with the Marauders, Pampling earned multiple honors throughout his four-year tenure, including being named to the 6A All-District and Region I All-Regional Teams during his junior and senior seasons.

Posting scoring averages in the low 70s during his time with the Marauders, Pampling averaged a career-low of 73.05 during the 2021-22 season.

Astiazaran, introduced in January, enters his first season with the program after finishing a four-year career at Salpointe Catholic High School, where he earned First Team All-Arizona according to AZPreps365 after every season of competition with the Lancers.

The Tucson, Ariz., native shined during his senior year of competition, earning multiple top-10 finishes and taking first place at the Tucson City Junior Championship. Shooting a two-under-par 142 (69-73), Astiazaran finished two strokes clear of second place, marking his first tournament win of the 2022 season.

The lone transfer in the signing class, Henely is set to compete at the Division I level for the first time after playing two seasons at Pima Community College. During the 2022-23 season, Henely competed in three tournaments, with his best finish coming in the Chandler-Gilbert CC Invitational, where he tied for first place. In the 36-hole tournament, he shot a team-best eight-under-par 134 (68-66).

Henely became the first Aztec NJCAA All-American since 2016 after he tied for 14th place at the 2022 NJCAA Division I National Tournament. That same season, he took second place at the NJCAA Region I, Division I tournament.
