SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Pacific women's track & field team wrapped up the 2023 season when it competed in the Johnny Mathis Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational Saturday morning at San Francisco State and Azusa Pacific.
Kailey Espinoza, competing in the 100 meters, clocked the third-fastest time of her career, finishing in ninth place with a time of 13.32. Espinoza was two-tenths of a second from breaking her personal best in the event, set at the Mike Fanelli Invitational last weekend.
Six team members competed in the 1500 meters, with
Sophia Livingston pacing the team. Livingston set a new personal best in the event as she earned a 19th-place finish with a time of 5:08.57, breaking her best of 5:12.76 by over four seconds set at the Mike Fanelli Invitational.
Emily Wernli,
Elisabeth Garner, and
Anahi Avila Perez also set personal bests in the 1500 meters.
Leilani Rios had a career day in the field events, competing in the hammer throw. Rios set a personal best and a program record in the event with a throw of 36.93 meters and earned an eighth-place finish.
Rios, competing in the event for the fourth time in her career, broke her previous best by over four meters.
Alyssa Hershey, the lone team member to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational, participated in the 1500 meters. Hershey earned a 71st-place finish out of 156 competitors with a time of 4:46.96, her second-fastest time in her career.
