SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Pacific beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches, falling to #7 LMU, 5-0, and Portland, 4-1, in the Mid-Season Invitational at the Santa Cruz Main Beach.
"I think everyone had some hiccups offensively, but we had a strong serve-receive day," Interim Beach Volleyball Coach Carl Wheeler said. "I can see that the team is trying to make changes, and sometimes it takes time to adjust and develop."
Camdyn Albrecht and
Jillian Rodig, the lone pairing to win during the two matches for the Tigers (0-10), grabbed a three-set victory against the Pilots (3-8). Competing at the third flight, the duo came from behind after dropping the first set and earned a 14-21, 21-14, 15-8 victory over Grace Zilbert and Brodie Baker.
In the tournament's first match, Pacific faced off against nationally ranked LMU, the first ranked opponent for the Tigers this season. The Lions (14-1) swept through the Tigers, securing all five matches to move on to the Gold Bracket.
Pacific returns to action at noon on Sunday, March 26, as it takes on Portland on the second day of the Mid-Season Invitational. Following the match against the Pilots, the Tigers will take on San Francisco at 3 p.m. to close the tournament.
