SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On Saturday afternoon, the Pacific women's beach volleyball team (0-7) dropped a 5-0 decision to local rival Sacramento State (3-2).
"We made some systemic changes and changed the focus in practice this week," said Interim Coach Carl Wheeler. "We continue to improve, especially as we figure out the right pairings."
Senior Sedona Sherman and Freshman Josephine Kinlan grabbed Pacific's lone winning set. They took set one 21-17 in the second flight against the Hornets.
The Tigers had quite a few close sets with the Hornets. At #3, sophomore Camdyn Albrecht and freshman Jillian Rodig had two close battles, 21-15, 21-18.
At #5, junior Jewel Turner and fifth-year Joli Ruby came close to pushing a third set after almost taking set two 21-19, a comeback effort after set one 21-6.
"There are things we are doing in practice really well, but they haven't translated to our matches," said Wheeler. "If we can fix those things, then I can see us putting ourselves in a better position to win."
