STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team begins the 2023 season on Friday, Feb. 10, on the road at the NorCal Kickoff, hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State on Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11.
"Our home opening series with Nevada and first conference series with LMU is something we are looking forward to," Head Coach
Brian Kolze said. "The big mid-week matchups with Fresno State, California, and Oregon will be exciting for the team and the fans."
The tournament's first day features two games, starting with a morning showdown against Seattle U, followed by a matchup with UC Davis later in the afternoon at La Rue Field.
The Tigers then travel a short distance to Shea Stadium, where they compete in two contests against Utah Valley and Sacramento State the following day.
The CBU Classic at California Baptist from Friday, Feb. 17, until Sunday, Feb. 19, is next on the schedule, as the Tigers face off against Colorado State, California Baptist, and CSUN throughout the three-day tournament.
Pacific plays at Bill Simoni Field in the first home series of the season, as it takes on Nevada in a three-game series starting on Saturday, Feb. 25. The Tigers and Wolf Pack will compete in a doubleheader to open the weekend and then close out the final game the following day.
Following the short home stint, the Tigers travel to the Aloha State to compete in the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament from Friday, March 3, until Sunday, March 5. The Tigers face off against a couple of East Coast teams – Niagara and St. Bonaventure – while also taking on Hawaii and Utah.
Pacific returns to Bill Simoni Field for an eight-game homestand starting on Wednesday, March 8, with local rivals Fresno State, followed by a three-game series against CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, March 11, and Sunday, March 12, before wrapping up with doubleheaders against Maine and Dartmouth later in the week.
After one final non-conference road game at San Jose State, Pacific hosts Sacramento State and California at Bill Simoni Field. The Tigers face the Hornets in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 25, followed by a match with the Golden Bears on Wednesday, March 29.
Pacific opens league play at home as it hosts defending WCC champion LMU for a three-game series starting on Friday, April 7. The Lions finished last season with a 37-12 record and made an appearance in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.
"Conference play will be exciting as long as we don't look too far ahead, Kolze said. "We didn't have a great season statistically last year, so hopefully, the adjustments we have made will lead to greater success throughout the entire season and in conference."
Conference play continues with two straight road series in San Diego on Saturday, April 15, followed by a trip to the Bay Area to compete at Santa Clara on Saturday, April 22.
Pacific closes out its non-conference schedule with a matchup against Oregon, another NCAA Tournament competitor, at Bill Simoni Field on Thursday, April 27.
The Tigers play at home for the final time, starting on Saturday, April 29, hosting Saint Mary's.
A matchup against BYU, starting on Friday, May 5, ends the regular season in Provo, Utah.
