STOCKTON, Calif. – Redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre broke a tie ball game open with a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give Pacific a 6-3 win over Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon, giving the Tigers the series at Bill Simoni Field.
Leading up to her homer was a busy two frames in which Pacific (15-29, 3-8 WCC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead, only for Santa Clara (22-21, 7-4 WCC) to score three runs of its own. Silvestre was the first Tiger to get on the board with a productive out in the third inning, bringing home senior
Jordan Hayes on an RBI groundout. Four RBIs is a new career high for the redshirt senior and one shy of entering the record book for the fourth most in a single game. The homer meanwhile was her third of the season and brings her career total to 14.
Right after Silvestre's RBI groundout, junior
Zaedi Tagalog tripled the Tigers lead. First, she singled up the middle to score sophomore
Peyton Clifford to make it 2-0. She then advanced twice on wild pitches, the second which she was able to draw an errant throw from the Broncos catcher to allow her to come around to score.
Offense was much harder to come by in game two for Pacific as Silvestre's big fly and Tagalog's RBI single accounted for two of the five afternoon hits. Junior
Kaylah Adams was Pacific's lone multi-hit bid of the game and Clifford's double off the third base bag in the third round out the offensive production.
Freshman
Sophia Lambaren entered the game amidst Santa Clara's offensive run, and after allowing three of the first four batters she faced to reach base, settled in to flummox the Broncos. In the final three innings of play, Santa Clara only once got a runner to second base and immediately grounded into a game-ending fielder's choice when they did.
On her final line she finished with four innings pitched, four hits, one run allowed and two walks, but most importantly her first collegiate win. Her outing today lowered her season ERA below 3.00 for the first time this season and, at the moment, sits at a team leading 2.92.
Before the lefty's appearance, junior
Justice Alcaraz took the circle as the starter and navigated the opening three frames without blemish before her day was ended by a two-run SCU homer. Her final line read three innings pitched, four hits, two runs and a strikeout.
With the win, Pacific secured its first series win over the Broncos since 2021 and will be going for the first sweep since 2017. A win would also tie the longest Pacific winning streak over SCU since that 2017-18 run. First pitch on Sunday is set for noon on ESPN+.
