SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Pacific beach volleyball squad opened the 2023 season with a pair of losses at an event at San Jose State on Saturday, dropping a 4-1 decision to the host Spartans and 5-0 to Santa Clara.
In the opening match, junior
Hania Taduran and senior
Jenny Todd notched a three-set win in the #1 flight, 16-21, 21-16, 15-11. In the #4 flight, sophomore
Abby Miller and senior
Joli Ruby narrowly dropped a 22-20, 27-25 decision to San Jose.
In the second match, Taduran and Todd played in the #1 flight and lost narrowly, 22-20, 21-13.
"I saw good things we can build on," said interim beach volleyball coach Carl Wheeler. "Our first pair had a great showing today, knocking off a great San Jose State first team. Overall, as a team, we know we can be better executing from the service line in big moments and staying aggressive down the stretch to earn points. I'm excited to how much we improve this week as we have three days of matches.
Pacific (0-2) returns to action on Wednesday, March 1 with a 2 p.m. contest at UC Davis and open the home season at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 against Portland. The Tigers play Saint Mary's and Sacramento State at the Santa Cruz Tournament on Saturday, March 4.
