BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The #11 Pacific women's water polo team (7-2) travels to the Indiana Classic this weekend to take on four opponents, two ranked in the Top-15 nationally.
Pacific takes on #13 Wagner (11-2) and Salem (1-3) on Saturday. Against the Seahawks, Pacific is 5-3 all-time, including a 13-11 win the last time the two teams met in 2018. This will be the first time the Tigers of Pacific take on the Tigers of Salem.
On Sunday, Pacific takes on the tournament's host, #12 Indiana (8-4) and Occidental (0-1), ranked #10 in Division III. The Tigers are 3-3 against the Hoosiers, last facing the Midwest team in 2020. Against the Occidental Tigers, Pacific has a 4-1 record, including a 15-8 victory the last time the two teams met in 2012.
Pacific ran their winning streak to start the season to seven games with three wins at the UC Davis Aggie Invitational. The Tigers rattled off wins against Cal State Monterey Bay, #19 San Jose State and La Verne. The streak ended against the top-ranked team in the nation, Stanford. The Tigers are 7-2 on the season, with their setbacks coming to the nation's #1 and #2 (USC) teams. The Tigers lead the GCC with their 7-2 record.
Pacific sophomore Hila Futorian captured the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week title in week six of GCC action. Futorian is tied for first in the GCC with nine assists and seventh in the conference with 23 total points. She leads the conference in assists-per-game, averaging 1.0 and is sixth in points-per-game averaging 2.6.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Clara Vulpisi leads the league in saves percentage (.463) and goals against average (9.60). She's on top of the conference leaderboard in steals with 14, in steals-per-game with 1.6 and saves-per-game with 6.9. She is second with 62 total saves.
Freshman Dora Alaksza is tied for third in the conference with 22 goals and sophomore Szamira Koppány is close behind at fifth with 20. Koppány and graduate student Lucy Davis are tied for fourth in the GCC with eight assists each.
Koppány is fourth in the GCC in points with 28. She's followed by Alaksza at fifth with 25 and Davis at 10th with 21.
Graduate student Brianna Utas and Davis are tied for eighth in the conference with two field blocks apiece. Davis is also third with a .500 sprint win percentage with eight wins. Sophomore Addison McGowan is tied for ninth with three wins.
Alaksza joins Vulpisi on the steals leaderboard tied for third with 11 and is third in goals-per-game with 2.4. Koppány is right behind her in fourth with 2.2 and freshman Alicia Petkov is tied for sixth with 1.9.
Koppány is second in the GCC in points-per-game averaging 3.1, followed by Alaksza in fourth with 2.8 and Davis in seventh with 2.3.
Alaksza and McGowan are eighth and ninth, respectively, in steals-per-game with 1.2 and 1.0.
