SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Cindy Ball-Malone, who is one of two former Pacific Tiger softball players to have her jersey retired, was named to the Class of 2023 as Pacific's selection for the 13th annual West Coast Conference Hall of Honor, which will be recognized during the WCC Basketball Championships in March.
Ball-Malone finished her career as the greatest two-way player in Pacific program history as one of the most dominant pitchers and hitters in Pacific history. As a player, she was a two-time NFCA All-American in 2001 and 2002 and concluded her career as the program's career leader in innings pitched (883.1), wins (91), saves (10), strikeouts (761), shutouts (46), and RBI (111).
The conference pitcher of the uear in 2001 and 2002, Ball-Malone posted a 33-9 record as a junior and a 28-11 mark as a senior and held the program single-season records in wins (33), saves (six), strikeouts (291), and shutouts (18).
Ball-Malone's dominance in the circle and at the plate led the Tigers to a 50-win season in 2001, the most wins in a single season for any squad in Pacific softball history. She was named to the 2002 Verizon First-Team Academic All-America squad.
After her playing career, she joined the Tiger coaching staff for three seasons. Since 2018, she has been the head coach at UCF, leading the Knights to a 145-59-2 record over four seasons, including a 49-14 mark in 2022. UCF won the 2022 American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles. The Knights earned the #16 seed in the NCAA Tournament, hosted a regional and advanced to the super regionals. She was named the national coach of the year by Extra Innings Softball and her staff was honored as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mideast Region Coach of the Year after finishing 14th in the final NFCA national poll.
Ball-Malone graduated from Pacific in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Science and with a master's degree in Education in 2005. Her jersey number (9) was retired by Pacific in 2012 and she was inducted into the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014. She and her husband, Bobby, live in Orlando with their four children, Four, Ryder, Cayson and Sawyer.
