HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Pacific women's cross country team kicked off the 2022 season Saturday morning, earning a second-place finish at the Big Wave Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii.
Totaling 40 points overall, four team members earned top-10 finishes, paced by a fourth-place finish from
Alyssa Hershey. Hershey, competing in the Big Wave Invitational for the third time in her career, posted a personal best at the meet, finishing with a career-best time of 19:55.8.
Sophie Pazzo followed right behind Hershey and earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 19:56.8.
Dalee Higgins, competing in her first career meet, placed eighth with a time of 21:01.6, while
Ella Leroy rounded out the top 10 with a time of 21:22.8.
Freshmen
Emily Wernli and
Briteny Goriye also contributed to efforts in the season opener, as Wernli earned the third highest placement of all freshmen competing in the meet. Wernli placed 13th overall with a time of 21:59.4, while Goriye placed 25th with a time of 24:43.1.
"Great race," Head Coach
Josh Jones stated after the meet. "The team ran well, and I'm very excited about where we go from here."
Pacific returns to action Saturday, Sept. 17, as the Tigers travel to UC Riverside to compete in the UCR Invitational.
