Pacific women's XC team at Pacific Invitational

Lione, Women Crowned Champion of Pacific Invitational

LODI, Calif. – The Pacific cross country program turned in a masterful performance at the Pacific Invitational on Friday evening as the women captured first place and the men posted a runner-up finish at Micke Grove Golf Course.

Sophomore Angelina Lione spearheaded the competition in the women's 6k, guiding the Tigers to its first team championship in the Pacific Invitational since at least 2009.

"I'm happy with the efforts from both teams, especially for the women to win the race and do it in a controlling fashion," Pacific head coach Isaac Wood. "I really thought they did exactly what I wanted them to do. They ran together as a group. We put four in the top five. Angelina controlled a polished race. Everyone ran really solid. An outstanding race and a sign of good things to come as well."

Lione continues to impress in her first season as a Tiger, completing the 6k with a time of 21:37.0, shaving off nearly 30 seconds from her personal best to earn the fifth fastest in Pacific program history.

"I felt pretty good," Lione said. "I felt the community was really cheering me on the whole time. It felt great to have that extra support."

Not only did Lione put on a show on outskirts of the Stockton area, but sophomore Alix Crawford suited up for the first time and secured second place individually, clocking a time of 22:03.1. Freshman Emma Schmutz (22:17.5) and freshman Daphne Iosua (22:32.6) also completed the race in the top five of the scoring.

The women ultimately had seven finish in the top ten, taking first place with 21 points and defeating UC Santa Cruz, Cal State East Bay, William Jessup and Dominican in the process.

On the men's side in the 8k that kicked off the Pacific Invitational, the Tigers finished second as a team behind Santa Clara with 43 points.

Sophomore Kohl Sanders was the first Tiger to cross the finish line and became the fastest Pacific men's runner to record an 8k in school history, clocking in a time of 25:18.4.

Freshman Daniel Judd was right behind Sanders with the second fastest time in that category, coming in at 25:21.8 and setting a new personal best.

Junior Samuel Lanham and sophomore Jack Weber also finished in the top 15 of the race, posting strong sub-26 minute performances in front of the Tigers' faithful.

Up next, the Tigers will compete in their final regular season race of the season, heading to the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 18, hosted by Santa Clara in the Bay Area.
