KINGSBURG, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of the Nick Watney Invitational Monday afternoon, as the Tigers finished in a tie for 10th place at the Kings River Country Club.
After posting a two-over 73 in the first round,
Leonardo Rigamonti recovered and scored a six-under 65, his best round so far this season, shooting him 30 spots up the leaderboard as he finished in eighth place after two rounds. Starting on the first hole in the second round, Rigamonti birdied seven of the first nine holes before adding one more birdie on the back nine while only tallying two bogies.
"Leonardo was able to find his confidence and perform much better in the second round," Head Coach John Coach stated regarding Rigamonti. "He played a solid round and helped the team score tremendously."
Maverick Pavletich had two solid rounds to begin the tournament tallying one birdie on the 17th hole in the second round en route to a two-round finish of one-over 143. Pavletich recorded seven birdies in the first two rounds of play and finished in a tie for 28th place.
Timothy Jung (five-over 147),
Petr Janik (six-over 148), and
Griffin Long (15-over 157) rounded out the team scoring, while
Haakon Mathiesen competed as an individual and posted an 11-over 153.
"We need to come out and start a little quicker, " Cook said regarding how the team needs to start in the tournament's final round. "We need to get some good scores under par to get back into it."
Pacific returns to action as the final round of Nick Watney Invitational tees off tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
