Men's Golf Moves Up, Earns Seventh-Place Finish at Ram Masters Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Pacific men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the season Tuesday morning, earning a seventh-place finish out of 15 teams with a 16-over-par 856 at the Ram Masters Invitational. Host Colorado State placed first after posting a 17-under 823, while Cal State Fullerton and Utah Valley rounded out the podium.

After a stellar first day of competition, Petr Janik continued to shine in the final round as the senior from Havirov, Czech Republic, shot a one-over 71 for a final three-round score of two under 208. Janik, who posted his first ever top-10 finish, was steady on the front nine in the early stages of the round, tallying birdies on two of the first three holes before posting two more birdies on the back nine.

Maverick Pavletich posted an even score through the first nine holes before struggling on the back nine. Pavletich finished the round four-over-par as he posted a score of 73. Finishing in a tie for 30th, Pavletich rounded out the tournament with a final score of four over 214.

Ian Fritz shot his first even par round of his career, posting a 70 in the final round. Fritz, who finished at eight-over 218 and earned a tie for 40th place, tallied three birdies during the round, including two on the last six holes.

Leonardo Rigamonti and Timothy Jung rounded out the scoring for the Tigers and were the only team members to post eagles during the tournament. Rigamonti finished in a tie for 46th place with a final score of nine-over 219, while Jung moved up and finished in a tie for 59th with a score of 12-over 222.

"We need to find what was working well this week and keep getting better," Head Coach John Cook stated regarding what the team needs to do heading into the next tournament. "Once we get the stats in, we'll break it down for them, and we'll do some qualifying to see who will travel next week."

Pacific returns to action on Monday, Sept. 26, as the Tigers compete in the Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by Fresno State.
