Tigers Lose Semifinal; Play for Third in GCC Tomorrow

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The #16 Pacific Women's Water Polo Team (13-11, 6-1) lost the semifinal of the GCC Championship Saturday afternoon to Loyola Marymount, 10-5.

"We played our hearts out," said Head Coach James Graham. "My heart breaks for the seniors. But, one of the most important things in life is how you respond, and tomorrow we'll respond."

Co-Captain senior Toula Falvey had two goals for the Tigers. Her first with 4:22 left in the first quarter and her second only 57 seconds after. Senior Lucy Davis assisted both Falvey goals.

Senior Ana Martinez do Amaral scored her first with 1:36 left in the second, with another assist from Davis.

Co-Captain graduate student Mariana Duarte scored only 23 seconds into the third quarter.

With 1:04 left in the fourth, do Amaral found the back of the net with her second goal, showing how hard the Tigers continued to fight until the end.

Duarte, freshman Hila Futorian and redshirt junior goalkeeper Clara Vulpisi each had two steals in the game. Senior Brianna Utas, senior Emma Myall and Davis each had one throughout the game.

Falvey leads the GCC Championship tournament with eight goals, and Davis leads the tournament with seven assists. Falvey and Davis are tied for second with 8 points each in the tournament. Utas is tied for second in the conference tournament with two field blocks.

Myall is tied for fourth overall with 2 sprint wins. Vulpisi and Utas are tied for first in the tournament with 4 steals each. Vulpisi is seventh on the leaderboard for saves with eight and fifth for her nine goals-against average.

Falvey is tied for first with goals-per-game; she has an average of four. Davis is first for assists per game with her three-point-five average. Falvey and Davis are tied for third in the tournament with an average of four points per game each.

Vulpisi is ninth with her four saves-per-game average. Utas and Vulpisi are tied for first with their two steals-per-game averages.

The Tigers play for third place in the GCC Championship Sunday, April 24 at 11 a.m.
