SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Pacific beach volleyball team resumes regular-season play as the Tigers travel to Sacramento State to compete in the Hornet Beach Challenge on Saturday, March 5.
Â
The Tigers had a slow start to the 2022 season, falling to nationally-ranked Pepperdine on February 25. The Tigers, however, recovered as the team earned two wins despite the dual match already being decided against Vanguard later that afternoon. Playing in their second match together,
Megan Nishimura and
Shahrzad Sadeghi earned an 18-21, 21-18, 15-13 come from behind victory, while
Darina Kumanova and
Francheska Aguilar took home a 21-13, 28-26 straight-set triumph.
Â
Pacific takes on Sacramento State to open the tournament and then follow with dual matches against San Francisco and Saint Mary's, West Coast Conference foes. Since 2013, the Tigers have dominated Sacramento State, earning 11 victories, including defeating the Hornets in the last two meetings.
Â
San Francisco has a slight edge in the all-time series against the Tigers, earning eight wins since 2013. The Tigers, however, have earned two-straight victories over the Dons, including recording a dominating 4-1 win in the West Coast Conference Tournament last season.
Â
Despite Saint Mary's having success over the Tigers in recent history, the last time the Tigers earned a victory over Saint Mary's was back in 2015, where the Tigers began the season 3-0 and took down the nationally-ranked Gaels 4-1 on March 7, 2015.
