Tigers 17th After First of Three Days of Amer Avi Invitational

WAIMEA, Hawaii – The Pacific men's golf team recorded a nine-over-par score of 297 and finished the first of the three-day Amer Ari Invitational on the Hapuna Golf Course in 17th place in the 19-team field. The event is stacked with six of the Top 10 teams in the country and 12 teams ranked in the Top 50. Arizona State leads the event with a first-day score of 20-under-par 268.

Junior Petr Janik (Havirov, Czech Republic) tallied the low round for the Tigers, carding a one-over-par 73. He had three birdies in the round and is tied for 69th among the players. Arizona State teammates Mason Andersen and James Leow lead the event with seven-under-par 65 scores.

Junior Maverick Pavletich (Bakersfield, CA) and sophomore Haakon Mathiesen (Oslo, Norway) each recorded a two-over-par 74. Mathiesen also had three birdies in the round. Junior Leonardo Rigamonti (Eupilio, Italy) was two strokes back with a 76. Senior Riley Killip (Olympia, WA) had a team-best four birdies but took a tough ten on the par-4 sixth hole and finished with a 77.

"The team did a good job sticking to our game plan today," said Head Coach John Cook. "We are looking forward to getting back out on the course tomorrow."

The second round of the Amer Avi tees off Friday at 7:30 a.m. Hawaii Time or 9:30 a.m. PT. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.
