STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team completed the final 18 holes of the Visit Stockton Invitational Saturday afternoon, finishing the three-day tournament in a tie for 11th place with an overall score of three-over-par 855 (287-274-294) at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.
Grand Canyon earned the first-place team finish with a 22-under-par 830 (273-277-280), while UC Irvine and Washington State rounded out the podium.
Alex Barclay continued his stellar performance competing as an individual, finishing the tournament with a career-low four-under-par 209 (74-64-71) after shooting an even-par 71 in the final round. Barclay, ending in a tie for 16th place out of 93 golfers on the player leaderboard, recorded four birdies in the final round, finishing the tournament with 13.
In the team scoring,
Ian Fritz shot a one-over-par 72 in the third round to finish with a score of one-under-par 212 (71-69-72). Fritz ranked second among all competitors with 16 birdies throughout the tournament, earning his best-ever finish in his first season competing with the team.
Leo Rigamonti struggled during the final round, ending the day with a three-over-par 74 to finish the event with an even-par 213 (71-68-74). Rigamonti tallied two birdies in the round and was one of only 18 golfers to record an eagle during the tournament.
Griffin Long,
Maverick Pavletich, and
Petr Janik rounded out the team scoring as Long came in a tie for 52nd place, finishing with a four-over par 217 (72-70-75). Pavletich earned a tie for 60th place with a six-over-par 219 (75-67-77), while Janik finished with an eight-over-par 221 (73-75-73).
"It wasn't the day we were looking for," Head Coach
John Cook stated at the end of the third round. "There are some positives to build off of, and we'll take those into our next tournament."
Pacific returns to action on Monday, Oct. 31, to complete the fall portion of the 2022-23 schedule as the Tigers compete in the Saint Mary's Invitational at the Poppy Hills Golf Course.
