Men's Golf Moves Into Ninth Place after Second Round of Visit Stockton Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. – Recording the lowest score of the round with a 10-under-par 274, the Pacific men's golf team completed the second round of the Visit Stockton Invitational in ninth place Friday afternoon at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.

The Tigers quickly moved up five spots on the team leaderboard throughout the round, completing the second day of their home tournament with an overall score of seven-under-par 561 (287-274). Grand Canyon continues to lead the 16-team field with an 18-under-par 550 (273-277), while UC Irvine and San Jose State round out the top three.

Alex Barclay, competing as an individual, moved up 58 spots on the player leaderboard and completed the second round in a tie for 13th place with a score of four-under-par 138 (74-64). Barclay, who shot the second-lowest score of the afternoon out of all 93 competitors with a seven-under-par 64, played his first-ever bogie-free round, tallying a career-high seven birdies in the process.

"It was a great round for Alex," Head Coach John Cook said. "He has been the hardest worker on the team, and his work ethic is finally paying off."

Leonardo Rigamonti led the Tigers in the scoring team, tallying a three-under-par 68, placing him in a tie for 20th place on the player leaderboard. During his improved second round, Rigamonti went bogie free and recorded three crucial birdies to help propel the team.

Ian Fritz continued his impressive start to the tournament, tallying a two-under-par 69 during the second round as he sits in a tie for 27th place with a two-under-par 140 (71-69). After leading the team with six birdies in the first round, Fritz posted six more and is now among only three players in the tournament to accumulate 12 birdies.

After a disappointing first round, Maverick Pavletich bounced back in the second round, tallying a four-under-par 67. Pavletich recorded five birdies during the round while nearly going bogie-free through the 18 holes and sits in a tie for 36th place on the player leaderboard with an even-par 142 (75-67).

Griffin Long and Petr Janik wrapped up the team scoring for the Tigers in the second round, as Long completed the day with a one-under-par 70, while Janik finished with a six-over-par 75.

"The message was clear last night that we needed to play as a team today," Cook said regarding the team's adjustments. "Four of the top five golfers were under par today, and I could not have asked for a better round."

Pacific tees off the final round of the Visit Stockton Invitational at 7:45 a.m. at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.
