Men's Golf in Seventh Place After Shortened First Day of Oregon State Invitational

CORVALLIS, Ore. – With the second round being suspended due to darkness, the Pacific men's golf team finished the day with a 13-over-par 296 and ended in a tie for seventh place out of 15 teams at the Oregon State Invitational.

Petr Janik led the team throughout the day, finishing 33 holes with a score of even-par 130, putting him in a tie for ninth place on the player leaderboard.

During the first round of play, Janik tallied a team-low one-over-par 72 and registered three birdies after starting the round with two-straight bogies. Before sunlight became a factor, the senor from Havirov, Czech Republic, completed 15 holes during the second round, tallying two birdies and only one bogie.

"He was steady all day," Head Coach John Cook stated regarding Janik's play after the suspension of play. "He looks very comfortable with his game and playing patient."

Ian Fritz performed well in the shortened second round, shooting even par with three birdies, a bogie, and a double bogie before play was halted. In 34 completed holes, Fritz is currently at three over par and sits in a tie for 29th place.

Leonardo Rigamonti also sits in a tie for 29th place at the end of the day and moved up 16 spots on the leaderboard after finishing the first round with a score of four-over-par 75. During a much improved second round, Rigamonti tallied four birdies and shot one-under par through 14 holes, finishing the day with an overall score of three over par.

Maverick Pavletich and Timothy Jung rounded out the scoring for the Tigers as Pavletich nearly finished two rounds of play, completing 35 holes, tallying a score of seven over par. Jung also finished at seven over par, completing 34 holes and adding three birdies throughout the day.

"The team was getting comfortable with the greens," Cook stated regarding how his team moved up the leaderboard during an improved second round. "We have some holes left to play, but we're holding it together until we can get out there and finish."

Pacific will tee off and complete the second round tomorrow morning, Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 8:15 a.m., and proceed into the final round of the Oregon State Invitational at the Trysting Tree Golf Club.
