FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Pacific men's golf team shot a second-straight round of 286 to finish with an 870 (298-286-286) to finish fifth at the Nick Watney Invitational at the San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno, California.
The Tigers, who started the day in seventh after Monday's opening round, made the climb to fifth as they shot 2-over par. Cal State Fullerton took home the team title with an 845 (286-280-279) for a five-stroke victory. As a team, the Tigers recorded 174 pars and 40 birdies.
The top individual for Pacific was Maverick Pavletich, who posted a 54-hole total of -1, 212 (72-68-72) to share ninth-place honors. The individual winner was Ethan Davidson of Sacramento State who shot a -7, 206 (72-66-68).
For Pacific, Leonardo Rigamonti shot his third-straight round of 72 for a +3, 216 (72-72-72) to share 15th place. Haakon Mathiesen posted a final round 71 to finish with a +7, 220 (78-71-71).
Also, for the Tigers' Petr Janik closed out the tournament with an even par 71 for a 54-hole total of 224 (77-76-71) for a tie for 44th, +13. Griffin Long tied for 48th with a +14, 225 (77-75-73).
Playing as individuals, Riley Killip tied for 51st with a 226 (78-74-74), Thomas O'Rourke tied for 71st with a 232 (74-77-81) and Alex Barclay tied for 76th with a 235 (8277-76).
Leaders in the field
• Pavletich led the field with 41 pars thru 54 holes.
• Rigamonti was the top player in the field with his 4-under play on par 3s.
• Long was one of five players in the field to record an eagle.
The next tournament for the Tigers is the Oregon State Invitational, Oct. 11-12 at the Trystring Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.
