LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Aiming to record their second conference series victory of the season, the Pacific baseball team (16-32, 6-18) fell in the rubber match against Loyola Marymount (20-29, 13-14) on Sunday afternoon, 10-3.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Despite a single from junior James Arakawa in the top of the first, the Lions got off to a fast start as Julian Bury brought in the first run of the afternoon grounding into a double play in the home half of the inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
- One inning later, LMU extended their lead to five by scoring four runs in the bottom of the second, which was highlighted by Matt Voelker's two-run triple.
- In the fifth, LMU tacked on two more on a two-run home run from Alec Cargin. Further extending their advantage, the Lions scored twice in the sixth, including a solo home run from Bury, to make the score 9-0 in favor of Loyola Marymount.
- Looking for offense in the middle innings, Pacific got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh as freshman Chaz Myers roped an RBI double to score senior Joe Fitzhugh. Moving into the eighth, junior Jeremy Lea came across to score the second Tiger run of the afternoon on an RBI groundout from senior James McClenaghan.
- Following an RBI triple from the Lions that plated their final run of the contest in the bottom of the eighth, UOP battled until the final out as sophomore Aidan Selfridge drove an RBI double to score Myers in the ninth before the Lions finished off the 10-3 win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- At the dish, senior outfielder Luke Price notched a career-high three hits in four plate appearances on Saturday, which included two doubles.
- Notably, Myers' double in the seventh marked his first hit since Apr. 24 at Saint Mary's, when he finished 2-for-3 with one double and one walk.
- On the mound, junior Michael Defelippi recorded his fifth consecutive scoreless outing with 0.2 innings of relief against the Lions.
