THINGS TO KNOW:
- Last time out, the Tigers took down No. 18 Stanford, 15-12, in a back-and-forth affair on Wednesday, Apr. 28 at Klein Family Field. Historically, the victory marked Pacific's first over Stanford since a narrow 4-3 win on Apr. 6, 2015 in Stockton as it was also their first victory over a ranked Cardinal team since the Tigers took down No. 19 Stanford, 9-4, on Mar. 23, 2010 at Klein Family Field. Additionally, the win goes as UOP's fourth victory over a Pac-12 opponent in 2021 with the Tigers having taken three of four from California to open the season in February.
- Heading into the weekend, junior James Arakawa has climbed the ranks and now sits fifth in the WCC in batting average with a .357 clip while senior Alex LeForestier is close behind at .336, good for twelfth in the conference. Impressively, the duo also both rank in the top five in OPS, with LeForestier placing fourth (.443) followed by Arakawa (.426) in fifth. Additionally, sophomore Thomas Gavello has enjoyed a power surge in his second year as he ranks eighth in slugging percentage with a .517 mark.
- Over their last ten meetings, the Tigers hold a 3-7 record against the Dons. However, Pacific has taken down USF in four of their last six matchups in Stockton dating back to the 2016 with their most recent win coming in a 13-6 victory on Apr. 18, 2019.
SCOUTING THE DONS:
- Making the short trip to Stockton after a recent home series, USF took two of three from Portland last weekend to remain tied for third with the Pilots in the conference standings with an 11-7 record in WCC play.
- As a team, the Dons have significant talent offensively as they rank first in the conference in stolen bases (53), second in home runs (32), third in on-base percentage (.356), runs (200), RBI (182) and walks (156) as well as fourth in batting average (.252) and slugging percentage (.405).
- Individually, the Dons have the top two base stealers in the conference in Darius Foster (16 SB) and Jack Winkler (14 SB).
