THINGS TO KNOW:
- Last time out, Pacific fell to No. 20 Stanford on Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2-0, in their final contest of a twelve-game stretch away from Klein Family Field. This meeting marked the first of three dates between the Cardinal and the Tigers as Stanford is set to make the trip to Stockton this upcoming Wednesday, Apr. 21 followed by one final game at Stanford on Wednesday, Apr. 28.
- Heading into the weekend, junior James Arakawa continues to rank amongst the best in the WCC at the plate, placing in the top 20 in batting average (.337, eleventh) and on-base percentage (.408, eighteenth). Finding his rhythm, sophomore Thomas Gavello currently leads the team in doubles (2), OPS (.838), total bases (38), runs (18) and slugging percentage (.432) while also placing second in hits (25) and home runs (2).
- On the mound, sophomore Grant Stevens paces the starters with a 2.96 ERA in 13 total appearances while redshirt fifth year student Nick Swanson leads the bullpen with a 2.92 in 11 appearances. On the basepaths, senior Wyatt Hoffman is tied for seventh in the conference with six stolen bases.
SCOUTING THE DIRTBAGS:
- After their original schedule was set with conference-only games, Long Beach State will get play in their first non-conference action of the season in their series at Pacific this weekend. With four series of Big West play under their belt, the Dirtbags currently sit in sixth place with an 8-8 record.
- As a staff, the pitchers have led the way for Dirtbags in 2021 as their 3.45 team ERA ranks third in the conference while the .229 opponents' average is good for second. Additionally, Long Beach State also ranks second with 158 strikeouts.
- At the plate, the Dirtbags ranks third in the Big West with 13 home runs and 27 doubles.
- Prior to the season, Long Beach State was picked to finish second in the Big West Conference preseason coaches' poll behind UC Santa Barbara.
