Tigers Face Bulldogs in Second Straight Midweek Matchup

FRESNO, Calif. – Hungry to get back on track, the Pacific baseball team (7-10, 0-3) will aim to take down Fresno State (6-8, 4-5) for the second straight Wednesday tomorrow afternoon when they face off against the Bulldogs in another midweek matchup.

THINGS TO KNOW:
  • Despite dropping their last three to Portland to open conference play, the Tigers are currently hitting .260 as a team, good for fourth in the WCC. Additionally, Pacific's .338 on-base percentage ranks sixth in the conference. 
  • Defensively, the Tigers have also enjoyed success out of the gates as they currently are second in the conference in overall fielding percentage (.979) while also leading the WCC in runners caught stealing (13) and runners caught stealing percentage (.371). Overall, Pacific has recorded the most putouts (450) with the least amount of errors (13) in the WCC. 
  • Continuing his strong start to the season, junior James Arakawa currently ranks second in the WCC in batting average (.411) and fifth in on-base percentage (.470). On the base paths, senior Wyatt Hoffman is tied for second as well with five stolen bases.
  • Having pitched 14.2 innings with 13 strikeouts across eight relief appearances this season, sophomore Grant Stevens is slated to make his first start of 2021 on Wednesday.
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • Fresno State will host their first midweek contest of the season on Wednesday when they welcome the Tigers to town. Last time out, the Bulldogs defeated Nevada, 8-3, on Sunday, Mar. 21 to snap their three-game skid.
  • With the matchup being the second game between the two programs in as many weeks, Fresno State still holds the all-time series lead, 100-48. However, Pacific hung on to take down the Bulldogs last Wednesday, Mar. 17 by a final score of 3-2.
  • As a team, the Bulldogs currently rank fifth in the nation in double plays per game with an average of 1.14 per contest while also placing twelfth nationally with 16 overall on the year. Individually, outfielder Dylan Johnson has tallied two triples so far in 2021, good for 26th in Division I.
  • Within the Mountain West, Fresno State leads the conference in walks (71) while also being third in walks allowed per 9 innings (4.58), fielding percentage (.967), runs (79), scoring (5.6) and on-base percentage (.357).
