Tigers Drop Close Contest to Lady Jacks

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific beach volleyball team (1-6) dropped a heartbreaker to Stephen F. Austin (7-4), 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Raney Volleyball Courts.
 
Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Tigers could not carry their momentum to close the match, falling in five sets to the Lady Jacks. 
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Starting out on the right food, the Tigers No. 1 pairing of freshman Sedona Sherman and junior Hanne de Schrijver defeated the SFA pairing of Iris Fletcher and Corin Evans, 21-18 and 21-16, to give Pacific the early 1-0 advantage. Overall, de Schrijver paced the duo with 14 kills, 7 digs and 4 aces while Sherman added 11 digs, 5 kills and 2 aces in the win.
  • Hitting their stride, the second pairing of sophomores Riley Patterson and Gabby Leo were also victorious over the Lady Jacks, taking down the pairing of Paige Schieferstien and Morgan Beckham in two sets. Having forfeited the second set, Leo tallied 6 digs, 6 kills and one ace in the first set while Patterson notched 6 digs and 3 kills for the Tigers.
  • In the third set, the duo of sophomore Jadyn Tubbs and freshman Jenny Todd battled the pairing of Olivia Unnasch and Maren Wisener, but ultimately fell to SFA, 23-21 and 22-20. Despite the loss, Todd led the way with 19 digs, 15 kills and 2 aces while Tubbs recorded a team-high 21 digs along with 8 kills.
  • Evening the match, Hailey Hunt and Xariah Williams tied the score at two by topping the UOP pair of junior Claire Danna and freshman Kaelyn Saler, 21-13 and 21-17. For the Tigers, Danna finished with 13 digs, 3 kills and one ace while Saler added 8 digs, 12 kills and one ace as well.
  • In the fifth match, Stephen F. Austin would claim the third and final point to secure the victory when Neena Purdue and Ariana Pagan took down freshman Kris Siridakis and sophomore Lucy Carpenter, 21-9 and 21-19. Fighting until the final whistle, Siridakis paced the pairing with 11 digs, 5 kills and one ace in addition to Carpenter's 7 digs and 7 kills.
UP NEXT:
Pacific will return to the beach tomorrow, Thursday, Mar. 12 when they hit the road to face fellow conference foe, Saint Mary's. Game time from Moraga is set for 4:00 pm.
