Pacific Bounces Back with Win At Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific men's basketball team (15-5, 3-1) made history on Thursday night when they took down the University of Portland (9-10, 1-3) for their fifteenth overall victory of the season, marking the first time the Tigers have recorded fifteen wins in the Damon Stoudamire era.

Overall, UOP was stingy on the defensive end, allowing the Pilots to shoot just 33 percent from the floor while holding leading scorer Isaiah White (13.0 ppg) to zero points in the contest.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT-

First Half-
  • Coming out of the gates, freshman Daniss Jenkins scored the first five points of the game for the Tigers as the Tigers took a 5-2 lead after a three-pointer by Jenkins at the 17:59 mark.
  • Battling with the Pilots early, Pacific tied the score on Jahlil Tripp's third three-pointer of the season at 13:55.
  • Finding their momentum midway through the first half, UOP jumped out to a five-point advantage after back-to-back buckets from graduate transfer Gary Chivichyan and junior Jeremiah Bailey.
  • Hitting their stride as the half came to a close, the Tigers headed into the locker room leading the Pilots by three, 28-25.
  • Senior Jahlil Tripp was a force to be reckoned with, flirting with a triple-double by finishing the half with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

Second Half-
  • Fresh out of the break, Jenkins kicked off the scoring for Pacific with a jumper at 19:13, giving the Tigers a 30-27 lead over the Pilots.
  • Less than two minutes into the second half, Tripp notched his sixth double-double of the season after knocking down a pair of free throws at 18:26.
  • Heating up on the court, UOP extended their lead to ten (40-30) on a fast-break layup from graduate transfer Austin Vereen at the 15:08 mark.
  • Staying out in front of the Pilots through the following minutes, Jenkins pushed the Tiger lead to eleven after two made free throws at 5:27.
  • Despite the continued pressure, freshman Pierre Crockrell II delivered for Pacific down the stretch, nailing a new career-high four free throws as the Tigers maintained their double-digit lead as the clock winded down.
  • Pushing their winning streak to seven straight over the Pilots, UOP defeated Portland for their third conference win and fourth road win of the season by a final score of 65-55.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Tripp was tabbed the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after pouring 15 points, 14 rebounds (game-high), 7 assists (game-high) and 3 steals. Overall, it was also his sixth double-double on the season.
  • Jenkins finished with his second highest scoring output of the season, tallying 16 points as well as 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal.
  • Junior James Hampshire also enjoyed a stellar night against the Pilots, notching a new career-high with 10 points while also adding 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal.
  • The Tigers held the advantage over Portland in five major categories: points off turnovers (18-15), second chance points (7-4), bench points (22-10), points in the paint (34-20) and fast-break points (13-9).

UP NEXT: Pacific will aim to win back-to-back games on the road this season when they travel to the Bay Area to face WCC foe Santa Clara on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6:00 pm. With a victory over the Broncos, the Tigers would record as many conference wins as they did in 2018-19. The matchup with SCU will be broadcast live on The WCC Network.
