Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late Push by Pacific Falls Short Against USF

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team (14-5, 2-1) fell to San Francisco (13-6, 2-2) 79-75, on Saturday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Aiming to push their winning streak to three games, the Tigers struggled to cool down the Dons from the get-go as USF finished the game shooting 50.9 percent overall from the floor.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

First Half-
  • Despite the loss, the Tigers scored the first point of the contest on a free throw from redshirt junior Amari McCray at the 18:57 mark.
  • The Tigers battled the Dons early on, with freshman Daniss Jenkins tying the game on a layup at 15:46 to bring the score to seven-all.
  • Heating up as the half went on, USF used a 10-3 run midway through the opening half to take a commanding 30-19 lead with five minutes remaining.
  • Just a few minutes later, sophomore Jahbril Price-Noel delivered with back-to-back layups to cut the Don lead to thirteen (40-27) at the 2:40 mark.
  • At the break, Pacific trailed San Francisco, 48-34. Overall, the Dons enjoyed tremendous success on the offensive end, shooting 65.4 percent from the floor against the Tigers.
Second Half-
  • Coming out of the locker room, Jenkins got UOP on the board in the second half on a dunk at 17:38, cutting the USF lead to 53-36.
  • Midway through the half, the Tigers trailed by twenty at the 12:07 mark, but would then use the next seven minutes to find their rhythm on offense and bring them to within just ten points.
  • With just over four minutes remaining in regulation, senior Jahlil Tripp stole the ball from USF and delivered a highlight-reel dunk on the fast break to trim the San Francisco lead to single digits.
  • As the contest continued to switch back and forth, the Tigers got a close as five points against the Dons with 47 seconds remaining on the clock after a Price-Noel free throw.
  • Unfortunately, the late push would not be enough as Pacific ultimately dropped their first game of conference play this season, 79-75, to San Francisco.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Price-Noel was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after catching fire for the second straight contest, finishing with new career-highs in points (20), rebounds (8) and three-pointers made (3) while also adding one steal.
  • Tripp also poured in 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two assists for Pacific while Gary Chivichyan tallied 10 points.
  • The Tigers finished with more assists (14-9), steals (6-3) and blocks (4-2) than the Dons.

UP NEXT:
The Tigers will look to get back in the win column when they head north to face Portland on Thursday, January 16 for a 7:00 p.m. tip at the Chiles Center. The matchup with the Pilots will be broadcast live on the WCC Network.
