STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team (12-3) continues to put marks in to the win column, earning its seventh-consecutive victory Saturday night against Idaho State. The Tigers defeated the Bengals, 77-66.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
First Half
- In a game that was tied just twice, both occasions in the first half, Pacific led the game for over 39 minutes.
- The Bengals remained within four points of the Tigers for nearly the first eight minutes.
- Following a tie at 12-12, Pacific went on a 9-1 run to pull ahead by eight points (21-13).
- Pacific had another significant run with just over five minutes left to play. The Tigers went 10-3, giving them their largest lead of the half (13 points). Jahlil Tripp scored six points on the run, while Justin Moore and Daniss Jenkins each contributed a made basket.
- Pacific shot a whopping 57.6 percent (19-33) from the field, but was unable to score from the three-point line in the first 20 minutes of play.
- Amari McCray led all players with 12 points, while Tripp contributed 10 first-half points.
- The Tigers forced nine Idaho State turnovers, while also holding the Bengals from scoring on Pacific's three first-half turnovers.
Second Half
- Pacific held a comfortable lead for the first 10 minutes of second half play. A made three pointer by Idaho State brought the Bengals back within 10 points of the Tigers, but at 14:29 Pacific went on a 9-4 run for its largest lead of the game (15 points).
- Idaho State nearly erased (62-58) the Tigers lead after shooting 5-for-8 from the floor, which included a 3-for-5 effort from beyond the arc, between 10:11 and 5:31.
- Tigers found themselves back up by double figures (11 points) after scoring seven straight points. Austin Vereen came up big in the run, knocking down a three-pointer and a scoring on a fast break dunk after picking up a loose ball.
- The two squads matched point for point to close out the final two minutes of play.
- Pacific shot 4-for-5 from the three point line in the second half, en route to a 57.1 percent effort for the game.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- McCray contributed both offensively and defensively for the Tigers en route to being named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game. McCray totaled 15 points, six rebounds, and two blocks, while also dishing out a career-best four assists.
- Tripp recorded his third double-double of the season, which included his third 20-plus scoring performance (21 points). He matched his season high of 13 rebounds.
- Jenkins scored a career-high 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line.
- As a team, Pacific dished out 17 assists, led by junior guard, Moore, who handed off five assists. Joining McCray with four assists was freshman guard Pierre Crockrell II.
- Statistically speaking, the Tigers topped the Bengals in bench points (31-16), points in the paint (44-24), points off of turnovers (23-10), rebounds (34-22), assists (17-14), steals (10-4), and blocks (3-2).
