Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of the Pacific fell in its final game of the series to No. 12 Indiana by a score of 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers fall to 7-10 overall while the Hoosiers improve to 11-4 on the season.
At the top of the first with one out, Kevin Sandri registered the first hit of the game hitting a single to right field to land on base. James Free stepped up to the plate with two outs and doubled to left field to score Sandri for the early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Colby Stratten led off for the Hoosiers and walked. However, with two outs and two on, Logan Sowers doubled to left center to score Matt Lloyd and Logan Kaletha for the 2-1 lead.
After two scoreless innings, the Tigers managed to tie it back up at the top of the sixth. With one out, Lucas Halstead stepped up to the plate and singled to shortstop to get the motion started for Pacific. Nate Verlin was hit by the pitch to advance Halstead to second.
The next at-bat, Matthew Tarantino reached on a fielder's choice, keeping Verlin at second. Carter Hayes followed behind Tarantino and reached first on a throwing error, which allowed Tarantino to advance to second and score Verlin for the 2-2 tie.
From there, the Hoosiers scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to claim the victory, 4-2.
Sandri led the offense connecting for three hits in five at-bats with one run scored. Verlin was right behind with two hits in three at-bats with one run and one double. Free tallied an RBI and a double in one hit in four at-bats. The Tigers combined for nine total hits.
On the mound, Cooper Casad (0-1) was charged with loss, after pitching 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Cal Krueger picked up the win for the Hoosiers with 1.2 innings pitched giving up just one hit.
Pacific heads to San Jose State on Tuesday, March 13 for its final non-conference game with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m. The Tigers open conference action on the road at the University of San Francisco for three-game series starting on Friday, March 16.
