SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Pacific men's tennis team fell short of a victory on the road, dropping a 5-2 decision at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday
Pacific falls to 1-8 on the season, while the Gauchos improve to 5-2 on the season.
The day began with a big matchup between No. 24 pair Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Olveira and UCSB's Nicolas MOreno de Alboran and Anders Holm. The Gauchos pair would come from behind to take the game, 6-4, handing the Tigers' pair. Ross Watson and Mikayel Khachatryan dropped their doubles match against Simon Freund and Joseph Rotheram, 6-2.
In singles, both Olveira and Johnathan Lieu snagged victories. Lieu faced off against Hironori Koyanagi, winning the first set, 6-4, before taking an early 5-2 lead in the second set of the match. He allowed his opponent to battle back within one point (5-4), but won the next point to win the match with an identical 6-4 score. Oliveira earned a quick first set victory (6-2) over Holm before dropping the second set, 6-4. In the 10-point tiebreaker Oliveira won by a score of 10-7 to earn the Tigers other singles win.
