Tigers Split Doubleheader in Seattle

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SEATTLE, Washington - The Pacific baseball team took the first game of the double header, 8-5, behind Matthew Tarantino's three-hit and three-RBI afternoon. Lucas Halstead logged two hits and scored a pair of runs in game one. In game two, Nate Verlin knocked in three runs on three hits, while Bradley Jekich collected three hits and scored two runs in his first pair of games as a Tiger.

The Tigers begin the season 1-1 heading into Saturday's double header.

GAME ONE
In the seven-inning duel the Tigers fell behind early, 2-0, after three innings before Ryan Schalch reached on an error scoring Bradley Jekich. With James Free II on second, Verlin singled to right field plating Free. Tarantino stepped up to the plate, clubbed a ball to center field and rounded the bases with a home run bringing in Halstead and Nate Verlin to go up 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

With Ryan Shreve in to relieve, the Redhawks tied up the score 5-5 heading into the sixth inning. The tie wouldn't last long as Keaton Glover reached first on a dropped third strike and a passed ball allowing Halstead to cross the plate for the second time, bringing up Kevin Sandri. Sandri produced a double down the right field line scoring Tarantino and moved Glover into scoring position. With the Tigers up 7-4, Jekich grounded out to short, but Glover was able to cross the plate to make it 8-5.

Shelby Lackey got the start and tossed three innings giving up six hits. Shreve came out in the bottom of the seventh and retired the side 1-2-3 to grab the win.

GAME TWO
Pacific kept the bats going in game two with Sandri starting with a single down the right field line. Verlin roped a double into right field scoring Sandri and put the Tigers ahead 1-0.

The Orange and Black started up again in the third inning after Glover and Sandri reached on errors and Jekich singled to right placing runners in scoring position. Free stepped in and doubled to left center scoring Sandri, followed by Verlin smashing one up the middle to score Jekich and Free.

With the Tigers up 4-0, Seattle threatened in the fifth inning with a pair of hits to score a run, but were still down 4-1 to the Tigers. Seattle wasn't done as they loaded the bases in the seventh inning and with the bases-clearing double from Curtis Perrin, the Tigers found themselves down 5-4.

Pacific knotted the score at 5-5 in the top of the ninth after Schalch walked and Jekich scored on a wild pitch, but the Redhawks answered with three singles in the bottom of the ninth to take game two.

Cooper Casad started the game and went four innings giving up only one hit on 69 pitches. Justin Giovannoni took the loss for game two.
