Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific Tigers got the series win over Pepperdine with a 4-1 victory today. Pacific got a homer from James Free II and a three-run fifth to clinch the win, with Ricky Reynoso and Vince Arobio shutting down Pepperdine's offense all game. The Tigers are now at .500 on the year at 11-11 and 2-4 in conference, winning this series two games to one.
"Our pitching is getting better. Ricky today just competed, it was just a big performance by him when we needed it," said Head Coach Mike Neu.
Reynoso had a virtuoso performance, going 6.2 innings and allowing just one run while earning his third win. It was his longest appearance since May 17, 2016, when he went seven innings against Sacramento State. Reynoso retired eight straight from the fifth through the seventh before Arobio took over.
Free's homer was the first offense of the game, giving Pacific the lead. While the Waves would score one run with some smallball in the fifth, the Tigers quickly struck back.
Jimmy Boras started that three-run fifth with a blasted double high off the rightfield wall, just barely missing a homer. Three straight singles scored two runs for the Tigers as Danny Mayer and Matt Tarantino picked up RBI. The final Tiger run would come on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Schalch.
Pacific's defense took over for the rest of the game as Pepperdine could manage next to nothing against Reynoso and Arobio.
"Our guys are getting more comfortable," said Neu about the series win. "We're relying on our defense and our guys did a really nice job the last couple days."
