Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific Tigers fell 4-0 to the Gonzaga Bulldogs in their West Coast Conference opener Friday. Ryan Shreve worked six innings but took the loss in the pitcher's duel as Gonzaga's Eli Morgan hurled a complete game. Pacific is now 8-8 on the year while Gonzaga improves to 8-9.
Shreve worked a career-high six innings and didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, twice putting together streaks of five or more batters retired in a row. Shreve gave up just four hits, three of which came in the sixth inning, while giving up three runs.
Gonzaga manufactured a run in the second to take the lead. After two walks, the Bulldogs advanced the runners on a steal and an error, then scored on a groundout. Gonzaga would extend their lead with a homer in the sixth and another fielder's choice in the seventh to get to the final score of 4-0.
Miles Haddad and Bailey Hansen both had scoreless relief appearances, with Haddad striking out one in 0.2 innings and Hansen throwing a scoreless eighth.
STAT NOTES
- Shreve now has a 2.40 ERA in his career and has set new career highs in innings pitched in each of his last two games.
- Haddad has a 3.18 ERA over his last 5.2 innings and has recorded a strikeout in four consecutive appearances.
- In his last five games, Blake Barry is hitting .417 with a double.
- James Free II had caught one runner stealing in 17 attempts before catching two in three attempts today.
Game two of the Pacific-Gonzaga series will be Saturday, March 18 at 3:00 pm. The series wraps up at noon on Sunday, March 19.
