Auburn, Ala. - Senior Lexi Elman recorded 19 kills as the Pacific volleyball team downed Furman 3-1 in the season opener at the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn.

Wilk and Baptista led a run in set one, turning a 5-5 set into a 14-7 lead, and the Tigers  rolled to a 25-18 win by hitting .270 with just three errors.

Set two was more of the same, as the Tigers hit .269 and added four blocks on defense to hold the Paladins to a -.207 percentage (5 kills, 11 errors on 29 attempts) in a 25-12 romp.

But 11 of the Tigers' 20 attacking errors for the match came in the third set, as Furman turned the tables in a 25-16 set win.

In the fourth, both offenses ran efficiently, as Pacific hit .311 to Furman's .268. But Pacific jumped out of the gate to a 5-0 lead in the set, and kept Furman at bay through the first timeout. The Paladins rallied to tie at 15-15 and took a 17-16 lead before the two squads traded points to 19-19. A kill from Elman gave the Tigers a two-point margin at 21-19 but the Paladins refused to go quietly.

Tied at 21-21, Elman posted three of the Tigers final four points with kills, with only a service error going Furman's way as the Tigers closed out the match.

Elman's 19 kills put her on the cusp of 1,000 for her career as she enters Saturday's action with 996 as she looks to become the seventh player in Pacific history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for the Tigers.
