Late Push Puts Pacific In The Top 5 At The PING Cougar Classic

Provo, Utah - Opening up the 2016 PING Cougar Classic at the Riverside Country Club, the Tigers used a late push in round two of the day to propel themselves into fifth place overall on Monday, April 11.

The Tigers used an opening score of -5, 283, to set up their day while rebounding from a rough start to round two to finish the second 18 holes at +3 and two-under for the tournament at day's end. Overall, Pacific and the field find themselves looking up at the tournament hosts as BYU ran out to a 13-shot, 36-hole, lead after finishing the first day at -22 as a team.

Individually, senior SeungJae Maeng put himself in contention for the final round of play in Provo as the fourth-year Tiger shot two-under on the day after carding an opening round 69 while following with a 73. Maeng enters Tuesday's action in 12th place overall and six shots back of the leader, Colorado State's Dominic Kieffer, who's five-under, 67, in round two put the Ram senior in front of the field at eight-under for 36 holes. Kieffer will take a one-shot lead into the final 18 holes of action on Tuesday.

Behind Maeng, Tiger sophomore Jesper Kasanen closed his day just one-shot back of Maeng after posting a 72 in round one and a 71 in round two. After a bogey on one put Kasenen one-shot of par, the sophomore found a steady stroke the rest of the way in round two as he rolled off 11-straight pars before a birdie on the par-5, 13th, put him back to even. He would find himself in the red four holes later as he took advantage of a close tee shot on the par-3 17th to score a second birdie on the round and finish the second 18 holes at one-under par.

The Tigers are back on the course in the second-wave of teams off the 10th tee as they will tee off at 9:20 MT alongside of Utah and Colorado State.
