Atlanta, Ga. - Sophomore Kenna Ramey finished up her NCAA Championship swims today, swimming a 53.87 in the 100 Fly. Junior Curtis Klein also made the Olympic Trials in the 200 Back thanks to a 2:03.74 time while swimming at the 2016 Speedo Sectionals in Federal Way, Washington, the hometown of Ramey.
Ramey had previously broken the school record in the 100 Fly to reach the NCAAs with a 52.57. No other Tiger came within even a second of Ramey's time. The sophomore finished in the top 50 in the nation at the NCAAs and her 52.57 qualifying time was 30th in the nation.
Ramey also competed in the 50 Free at the NCAAs. She had the best time of any Tiger in that event this season with a 22.91, less than half a second off the all-time record. In Atlanta, Ramey swam a 23.37 to finish in the top 60 in the entire nation. Only ten other sophomores had better times.
This year, Ramey also had the second-best 100 Free time for Pacific with a 50.64.
For Klein, it was a successful showing away from the NCAAs as he made it into the Olympic Trials. Klein led the team in the 200 Back this year with a 1:46.35. Klein swam a 2:03.74 to make it to the Trials, with splits of 1:00.30 in the first 100 and 1:03.44 in the second 100. In the regular season, Klein also had the Tigers best time in the 200 IM with a 1:50.40 and was second in the 400 IM with a 4:11.49.
