Box Score Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers couldn't quite eek out that last bit of offense needed to win the America East championship today, losing 1-0 to No. 13 Stanford in the tournament final. The Tigers had two late penalty corners giving them a chance to tie the game but couldn't get the goal they needed and fall to 16-5 on the year.
The NCAA Tournament selection show is at 7:00 pm live on NCAA.com tonight with the Tigers having a chance at an at-large bid. This was the first time the Tigers played for a conference championship since 2004, when they won the NorPac championship. That was also the last time the Tigers went to the NCAA Tournament.
Laura Pujade stopped four of the five shots she faced in the game and was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts this weekend. The senior stopped 22 of the 27 shots she faced in the tournament.
Pacific's Ali Campos and Kriekie van Wyk were also named to the All-Tournament team. Campos had two assists against New Hampshire and was a crucial part of Pacific's attack all tournament, while van Wyk scored three goals in three games to get to 22 on the season, the second-most in Pacific history.
Kyleigh Morrison was also honored by the conference as the tournament's Elite-17 player for her athletic and academic achievements. Morrison, who has maintained a 3.72 GPA in the classroom, served as a crucial part of Pacific's defense all season while scoring a career-best three goals in her senior season.
The game's only goal was scored by Stanford's Jordan Barry at 15:18. Barry set up at the post and tipped in a ball that bounced through traffic off Nina Randolph's stick. The goal was review to see if the ball hit off a foot but the call was upheld, giving Stanford the 1-0 lead they would not relinquish.
Pacific picked up the offense in the second half as they earned four penalty corners, searching for a goal. The Tigers pulled their goalie with 2:41 left in the game and maintained their attack for much of that time but just couldn't score.
