STOCKTON, Calif. - After six full seasons at the helm of Women's Field Hockey at Pacific, Head Coach Andy Smith has accepted a position as the Head Coach at Cornell University.
Following termination of the sport this past spring, Smith embarks on a new journey with the Big Red entering his seventh season as head coach for the Ivy League team.
Smith's time with the Orange and Black has been highlighted by four winning regular seasons, four consecutive America East Conference West Division titles, and a 61-57 record on the field hockey turf. The Doncaster, England native recently took the Tigers to the America East Semifinals this season where they faced off against eventual Conference champions Albany.
During his six year tenure Smith produced two All-Americans, two Conference Players of the Year, 10 All-Conference awardees, and NFHCA All-Region recipients with Pacific. His .568 win percentage will go down as the highest percentage of any Field Hockey coach in program history.
Smith returns back to familiar territory on the east coast as he spent 10 years prior to Pacific in the Ivy League Conference at Dartmouth University. Smith guided the Big Green to five top-three finishes as the Associate Head Coach.
His legacy will be forever engrained at Pacific as Smith played a fundamental role in helping build and complete the Pacific Field Hockey Turf during the 2014 season.
Smith takes over a seasoned Cornell squad. The Big Red have posted five out of six straight winning seasons in conference. Cornell finished 5-12 overall last year posting a 1-6 record in the Ivy League.
