Tigers Win At BYU

Provo, Utah – The Pacific men's tennis team won on the road at BYU in West Coast Conference play on Friday, April 3. The Tigers improved to 7-14 overall and 4-2 in WCC play, while BYU dropped to 9-14 overall and 3-3 in WCC action. With the win, Pacific moved into fourth place in the WCC, after winning its fifth match in its last six.

The Tigers took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (Miguel Diaz/Jose Chamba) and No. 2 (Marlon Brand/Daniel Alameh). Diaz, Chamba and Alameh won singles matches to win the match. Diaz' 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win over Francis Sargeant clinched the win for the Tigers.

"I am really proud of the team today," said Head Coach Ryan Redondo. "I really don't think we played great tennis but we had a lot of purpose and a lot of energy. The doubles point flew by and from there we stayed together as a team and they really inspired each other.  It's not easy to come up to BYU and get it done. A lot of hard and smart work is needed to continue to improve."

The Tigers are next in action with their final home matches of the year on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12 at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. Saturday's match is the WCC finale against Santa Clara at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday is an 11:00 a.m. match against UC Santa Barbara. The matches are sponsored by Great Clips - and fans attending Saturday's match will get a gift card for a free haircut.
