San Diego, Calif. – The Pacific men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision against the No. 22 San Diego on Friday, April 24 in the Semifinals at the West Cost Conference Championships. The Tigers finish the season with a record of 10-17 overall, while the No. 1 seeded Toreros improved 22-4 overall.
"Today we came up against a very strong USD team," said Head Coach Ryan Redondo. "We played them early in the year and had a much closer match. In doubles today, I think we let the momentum slip away. We were up a break 6-3 at No. 2 and 4-0 at No. 3 and weren't able to pull it out. From there USD came out of the gates playing to win, and Pacific played way too passive and wasn't able to recover.
This was an amazing year to say the least. We had so much adversity and I want to give a lot of credit to the team to continue to learn and not lose sight of the goal. As the head coach of the Pacific Tigers I am going to be the first to say that I am not ok with losing in the semifinals for the second year of the WCC. This program has the talent to be a contender for the title and my mind is already on the how it's going to happen. There is going to be a lot of heart to hearts and we will need to find that next gear. Last but not least, it's a really sad day for me. Alex Hamilton and Marlon Brand are graduating. They mean so much to me as people and they were leaders that I trusted and connected with. They will be truly missed."
The Tigers dropped the doubles point, and the Toreros went on to win three singles encounters to secure the match victory.
