San Diego, Calif. – The Pacific men's tennis team swept Portland 4-0 on Thursday, April 23 at the West Coast Conference Championships. The Tigers improved to 10-16 overall, while the Pilots finish the season at 12-8.
"This was definitely a team victory in the sense that it was a bit up and down from everyone, but at the end of doubles we pulled out the doubles point," said Head Coach Ryan Redondo. "Singles was also tough. The match was a lot closer than the score shows. Portland is a talented team, however, we were tougher and played inspired. We have been wanting this matchup versus USD and look forward to the battle ahead of us."
The Tigers took the doubles point, as the teams of Sem Verbeek and Marlon Brand at No. 2 and Alex Hamilton and Daniel Alameh at No. 3 pick up victories. Miguel Diaz, Jose Chamba, and Daniel Alameh also picked up singles wins to give Pacific the match victory. Alameh's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Portland's Pierre Garcia clinched the match for the Tigers.
Pacific is back in action on Friday, April 24, as they progress to take on the No. 1 seed San Diego in the Semifinals of the WCC Championships. The match is set for 1 p.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center.
